2018 National Championship Metal Cards

The 2018 National Finals was an exciting milestone for the DBS CG as it was the first-ever time a champion was crowned. To celebrate such a momentous occasion, Bandai decided to award the top three players some incredibly special cards that have become some of the rarest and most valuable in the entire TCG.

The first-ever National Finals happened on November 17th and 18th in the Ohio Greater Convention Center. Those who won at the Regional and Store Preliminary events in the U.S. were invited to the Finals, with over 400 participants facing off overall. Players from all over the world did also take part in the National Championship, although there were some prizes only exclusive to the U.S. Finals, including the much sought after ‘Pan Ready to Fight’, ‘SSGSS Son Goku, The Soul Striker’ and ‘Miraculous Revival Shenron’ Metal Cards. The tournament was a Swiss-style competition, with the top 32 players going through to the Finals on November 18th. The National Finals also offered players an exciting Gunslinger side tournament to keep them occupied, as well as a chance to take on a DBS CG developers.

The Silver Cards

At the National Championships, ‘Ultimate Lifeform Cell’ Metal Card was awarded to those who came in 32nd to 17th place, while ‘Long Odds SS4 Son Goku’ was given to the top 16th to 4th place players. These cards were initially a U.S. exclusive, but following complaints from other parts of the world about the fairness of the distribution, they were later released in six other regions. In these regions, those that came in 3rd and 2nd received a silver ‘Ultimate Lifeform Cell’ card while the overall winner got the ‘Long Odds SS4 Son Goku’.

Those who participated in side events at the U.S. National Championship Finals, like the Gunslinger Tournament, received tickets that entered them into a random draw for the chance of playing for an ‘Ultimate Form Perfect Cell’ Metal Card. This meant that the more side events players took part in, the higher chance they had of their tickets being drawn.

Due to the cards being metal, it is difficult to get one that is lower than a PSA 10 grade. There are currently only 4 of each card that has been graded by PSA, all of which achieving PSA 10s. Although the true numbers are unknown, it is believed that only 30 ‘Ultimate Lifeform Cell’ and 20 ‘SS4 Son Goku’ are in existence.

The Gold Cards

The three gold cards were awarded to the top 3 players of the 2018 National Championship. The 3rd place Finalist was awarded ‘Pan Ready to Fight’, the 2nd place player got ‘SSGSS Son Goku, The Soul Striker’ and the overall Champion got the incredibly rare ‘Miraculous Revival Shenron’.

Because very few Gold Cards were given out as prizes, they are extremely difficult to come across. Only 1 ‘SSGSS Son Goku, The Soul Striker’ has ever been graded by PSA, which achieved a PSA 10, while none of the ‘Pan Ready to Fight’ or ‘Miraculous Revival Shenron’ cards have ever been graded through the service.
