A new Ghost rare is coming to the Digimon Card Game

During the release of BT6 Double Diamond, Bandai included a special gem to help celebrate the 1st anniversary of the Digimon Card Game. This card became known as ‘Ghost Omnimon’ and took the SEC Omnimon artwork from the first set (Special Release Booster) and removed the majority of its colour, leaving behind an incredible lined holo like nothing we had seen before in the TCG. Now, as we sail through the second year of the game, another Ghost rare Digimon card is set to arrive.

The next Ghost rare coming to the Digimon Card Game will be Alphamon, a fellow Royal Knight Digimon who stood and fought beside the legendary Omnimon. It is believed that the Ghost Alphamon will share the same design to keep the Ghost cards uniform in appearance, although it is unconfirmed whether they will reuse the Alphamon artwork also seen in the Double Diamond booster, or if they will go with the new Alphamon coming with the Xros Encounter set.

To date, Ghost Omnimon is the rarest booster card in the entire game, believed to have had a one in three carton chance of pulling, with the English counterpart having a similarly low pull rate. When Double Diamond was first released late last year, we reported sale prices of  $1025,$1200 and $1694 for raw copies. Although the prices have dropped and settled since then, Ghost Omnimon is still selling for around $800. Will we see Ghost Alphamon follow the same value and rarity pattern?

In March 2022, a PSA 10 Ghost Omnimon sold for a whopping $6547. At the time, it still only had a population of 21 cards in the registry, with only 10 of those achieving PSA 10 grades.   Two PSA 9s also sold in the same month for $1000 and $1025 on eBay.

Ghost Alphamon will release in the Xros Encounter set, which will hit stores on October 14th. Xros Encounter will focus on the Digimon Xros Wars series, known as Digimon Fusion in the English Dub. This was the sixth series in the anime and saw Tamers fusing several Digimon together to create a stronger Digital Monster.

Disclaimer: The image of Alphamon used in this article is not the Ghost Alphamon card coming with the Xros Encounter.

As well as having the Ghost rare included, the Xros Encounter set will also have two more alt art cards that will be exclusive to the English version of the game. It is unknown what these cards will be and if the Japanese version will also receive two unique card arts. Last week, we got the first images of the pack art from the Xros Encounter set, as well as the first card reveals.
