DBS CG: October Market Recap

October has been the month of reveals for the DBS CG. Besides the first glimpses of the reprint focused Mythic Booster, we have also seen the entire card list for the upcoming Saiyan Showdown set, including all four SCRs, which begins its pre-release period on October 29th. As is often the case, this new booster will no doubt affect the market landscape, but before that happens, let’s take a look at the current high-value cards and see how they are performing prior to the introduction of a new set.

Cross Spirits Cards

Cards from the Cross Spirits booster set are the latest to hit the DBS CG market, following its release on August 13th. Raw copies of ‘Super 17, Sibling Absorbed’ had achieved highs of $70 at the beginning of October but have now dropped between $49 and $62. Although there hasn’t been a lot of graded copies of this card selling throughout October, a BGS 10 ‘Super 17, Sibling Absorbed’ did go for $523 back in September.

Copies of ‘Majin Buu, Kibito Kai Absorbed’ were selling for between $140 and $150 back in August. In October, however, that value has now been halved, with it selling for between $60 and $70

On August 19th, copies of ‘Son Goku & Frieza, Miraculous Conclusion’ were selling for between $495 and $469. In September, this value dropped to the $350 mark and is now selling for an average of $285. The latest PSA copies to sell in October have gone for between $690 and $900, with a BGS 10 selling for $910.

The Signature Cards

The Tournament of Power booster was the first themed deck to focus on a specific Dragon Ball Super story arch. Among the cards in this set were the incredibly rare Signature cards with the SPR rarity. Due to the popularity of these cards, another three were added with the Assault of the Saiyans booster.

Raw copies of ‘Son Goku, Hope of Universe 7 (SR)’ were selling for between $641 and $850 throughout August. In October, however, the last two copies sold for $700 and $750. The last PSA 10 copies of this card went for $1,875 back in July but hasn’t seen many sales since then. Two PSA 10 copies did sell in September, but both sellers accepted offers below the $3000 and $2,425 asking price. Although we don’t have the exact sales prices, it is likely that they didn’t go too far below their asking price, which could mean graded versions of this card have seen a slight increase in value.

Although we have had no PSA 10 copies of ‘Meteoric Energy SSB Vegito’ sold in October, there was one that sold in September for $1450. There were three BGS 9.5 copies that sold for between $733 and $1,025 in October, with raw copies selling for around the $550 mark, which is still around the same prices seen in August.

Although finding PSA or BGS 10 copies of ‘Universe 7 Saiyan Prince Vegeta’ is hard at the moment, one did sell for $2,250 on September 29th, with another going for $1,550 on October 12th. Raw copies of this card were selling for around $500 back in August but it seems the value has now increased a little, with sales of between $500 and $600 seen throughout October.

Son Goku, the Awakened Power

‘Son Goku, the Awakened Power’ has risen in popularity over the last couple of years and is even regarded, by some, to be the Shadowless Base Set Charizard of the Pokemon TCG or the Black Lotus of Magic.

Throughout August, we saw PSA 10 copies of ‘Son Goku, the Awakened Power’ steadily drop from $5,250 to $4350. In September, a copy sold for $5,000, but that value fell to $3,821 by October. It is worth noting that another copy, currently being auctioned on eBay, has a top bid of $3000 with four days left to run. Raw copies of ‘Son Goku, the Awakened Power’ have been selling for $1,500 throughout October, which is still around the same price it was selling for in July.

Son Goku & Vegeta, Apex of Power

‘Son Goku & Vegeta, Apex Of Power’ was the SCR of the Universal Onslaught booster set that was released in February 2020. In August, a PSA 10 copy of this card went for $2108, with a BGS 10 copy selling for $2,650 through auction. There have been PSA 10 sales during October, but they have all been accepted offers, which means we don’t know what the buyer paid. What we do know, however, is that several of them sold beneath the £3000 asking price. On September 30th, a BGS 10 sold for $2500, which isn’t too far off the price previously achieved for the same grade.

Raw copies of ‘Son Goku & Vegeta, Apex of Power’  have been selling for between $800 and $900 through TCG Player, although copies on eBay have been selling for around the $700 mark.

The pre-release period for the Saiyan Showdown set begins on October 29th and will end on November 4th, the day before the set officially releases. As the name may give away, this set will focus heavily on the Saiyans of the Dragon Ball franchise and will support older archetypes while introducing some brand new ones to keep the meta fresh.
