Yesterday was Goku day in Japan, which the Japan Anniversary Association officially declared back in 2015. To mark such an important day for the DBS community, Bandai made a very special Goku Day announcement.
Yesterday, it was announced that a brand new Dragon Ball Super movie will be released in 2022. This will follow the previously released DBS: Broly movie that came out in 2018. On the Dragon Ball official website, the creator of the entire franchise, Akira Toriyama, shared his thought on the exciting new project.
In the statement, he said:
An all new movie, since “Dragon Ball Super: Broly”, is currently in the making. Just like the previous movie, I’m heavily leading the story and dialogue production for another amazing film. I really shouldn’t talk too much about the plot yet, but be prepared for some extreme and entertaining bouts, which may feature an unexpected character.
We’ll be chatting through some unexplored territory in terms of the visual aesthetics to give the audience an amazing ride, so I hope everybody will look forward to the new movie!
So what does this mean for the DBS CG?
When it comes to the DBS CG, there is a pattern of starter deck and booster set cards themed around the release of a new movie. This was seen with the ‘Goku:BR and Vegeta:BR’ cards that were based on the Broly movie and the cards found in the first booster, Galactic Battle, which were based on the DBS: Resurrection ‘F’ movie. Going off this pattern, we will likely see starter decks and booster sets based on the story and characters of the new movie.
The DBS: Battle of the Gods and DBS: Resurrection ‘F’ movies came before the release of a series based on the same events. Could this mean that we will see a movie based on the next chapter in the DBS anime? If this is the case, then it would focus on the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga. This could mean that Moro, the next powerful villain in the series, could be introduced into the DBS CG as well as other enemies to the Galactic Patrol such as Penne and Pasta Macareni.
The Unison Warrior Series First Anniversary Poll
To celebrate the first anniversary of the Unison Warrior series coinciding with Goku day, Bandai has invited players and collectors to participate in their ‘card popularity poll’, which will let people vote on their favourite UW cards. Bandai has hinted that the results could even affect the future reprint and product choices. To learn more about the poll and vote for your favourite Unison Warrior cards, click here.
