The first large scale Digimon live presentation will take place this weekend, with Bandai sharing a number of exciting details about the world of Digimon, from upcoming video games to the Digimon Card Game. This event is being streamed on the Bandai Namco YouTube page for free and will stream in both English and Japanese on February 26th and 27th, depending on where you are in the world!
Stream Times –
For those of you living in the US, the Digimon Con will kick on February 26th at 17:00 PST or 20:00 EST. Those living in the UK may have to pull an all-nighter if you want to watch the event live, as it starts at 01:00 on February 27th. Japanese fans will also tune in on February 27th, at 10:00.
The Digimon Card Game –
During the event, there will be a US vs Japan matchup, which will show off the new online client that was announced back in December. Unfortunately, this system will be for tournament use only, especially in matches against different countries. With that being said, as the client continues to be updated, I can’t see why it won’t be released for everyone. Going off the success of the YuGiOh Master Duel client, I think there are many Digimon Card Game players who would like an online option that isn’t webcam-based.
The Digimon Games –
So the trailer for the event shows that games old and new will feature at Digimon Con. Although we have no concrete details at the moment, I think it’s safe to assume that new video game projects will be announced at the event. Could we see another Digimon Cyber Sleuth game announced? It’s been six years since our last outing in the series, so I think many fans will agree that another title is long overdue. Personally, I would like to see a brand new Digimon World game or even a remaster of the iconic original. The elephant in the room would be an update on the Digimon Survive game, which was announced back in 2018 but has been silent ever since.
Anime and Illustrations –
There will be an anime panel during Digimon Con, where top figures in the production of the series will take the hot seat to answer questions and take part in discussions. With Ghost Game being the most recent Digimon anime, there will no doubt be a focus on the series and where it will be taken next.
The Digimon Illustration Competition returns, with the first winners being announced. These competitions are incredibly cool for budding artists, as it gives them the opportunity to have their Digimon creation become part of the franchise. Many of these new fan-made Digimon have already made their way into the Digimon Card Game, some of which you can see here. If you are interested in the art behind the Digimon Card Game, you can check out our recent interview with illustrator Koki.
Live Performances –
As seen with Bandai’s previous live stream events, such as the recent Dragon Ball Battle Hour, there will be live musical performances. For Digimon Con, Ayumi Miyazaki will make an appearance, the voice and composer behind several songs from the Digimon Adventure soundtrack including “Brave Heart” and “Beat It!” from Digimon Adventure 02.
Premium Bandai Discounts –
For those living in the US, you will be able to take full advantage of the Premium Bandai promotional discount and free shipping running throughout this event, which will allow you to purchase some really cool Digimon merchandise, including the Digimon Card Game Floral Fun Playmat and Card Set, as well as other Digimon Con exclusive items.
