Digimon TCG – New Hero First Reveals

The first cards of the latest Japanese Digimon TCG booster set, New Hero, have begun to drop. These cards give an interesting insight into the changes coming to the TCG going into the future, including dual colours, new Keyword Effects and other ways to Digivolve into higher-level Digimon.

New Hero will focus on the second Digimon anime series, introducing new Tamers, as well as the Armor Digivolution and DNA Digivolution forms. These aspects have been incorporated into the new set, offering new ways of getting to your higher level cards.

DNA Digivolve, or Jogress as it is known in Japan, allows a player to stack two Digimon together, as long as it meets the Digivolve conditions. This will cost no memory and will allow both stacks of cards to combine, keeping all of the Inherited Effects. Of course, you will only have one Digimon compared to two after merging the ones you had in play.

Armor Digivolution allows a player to Digivolve into certain Digimon for a much lower memory cost, as long as you use the Digimon listed on the card. Some of these Armor Digivolution forms also have the Armor Release Keyword Effect, which allows a player to stop the Digimon from getting trashed by removing the next card beneath it. This will provide a lot of protection for the Digimon but will gradually make it weaker as Inherited Effects are gradually removed.

Dual cards offer more flexibility when creating decks, which will offer two colour options when Digivolving. Although we have seen our first glimpse of Dual cards coming with Starter Decks 9 & 10, the New Hero booster set will come with a whole array of different colour combinations that are not just the purple/yellow or blue/green we’ve already seen. So far in the New Hero reveals, we are seeing more blue/green cards that will work with ST-9, as well as some red/blue, red/yellow, yellow/blue, green/red and blue/black combos.

As well as a number of New Hero cards, early concept art for the English booster box and packs have been revealed, showing the new logo for BT08. There will be 112 types of cards in total, 44 being Common, 30 Uncommon, 26 Rares, 10 Super Rares and 2 Secret Rares.
