The next set coming to the FFTCG, Emissaries of Light, is releasing on April 15th. Over the last couple of weeks, we have had several fantastic card reveals, which has given us a glimpse into what we can expect from this upcoming set. Now, we have two more card reveals in the form of Zidane, who has an ability that reflects the ‘Thief’ Job, and Squall, who has one of the most unique artworks we’ve seen for a while.
When this card states that Zidane is a “Tantalus Member” and “Thief”, they are not kidding. Its ability to remove the top card from your opponent’s deck, to use it whenever you want, is not only fun but could do some real damage if the right card is stolen. Zidane first appeared as the main protagonist in Final Fantasy IX, which was released on the Playstation in 2000.
This Squall card, illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano, is one of the most unique artworks in the entire game. Amano’s work on the Final Fantasy video games consists of character design, logo design and other graphics. In fact, he has drawn most of the FF main characters during his career, including many of the enemies. Having such a pivotal role in shaping the games we all love, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to learn that the esteemed artist is responsible for some of the best art in the FF TCG. Typically, we see more messy lines in Amano’s work, but this piece is different to his previous card arts.
Emissaries of Light will continue the Crystal mechanic first introduced with the Crystal Dominion booster that was released back in November 2021. If you would like to check out the other cards already revealed for this set, check out our links below –
