A Pokémon First Edition Base Set Booster Box sold for a record fee of $450,000 through a private sale on Instagram yesterday.
The previous record was set last month when a box sold for $408,00 at Heritage Auctions.
In the current climate, records appear to be broken every month and this particular case is no different. We reported Logan Paul’s booster break pack auction breaking the $1 million mark last week. This sale, however, highlights that value was reached via the premium of the event and other benefits such as a shout-out to his 20 million followers.
This box was purchased by German gaming duo Standartskill and Lofty, who shared the information via ThePokeJew’s Instagram. ThePokeJew, most recently seen selling a box to Logan Paul in his $2 million Pokémon purchase video, provided the middleman service allowing for a safe exchange of funds for the sealed English booster box from 1999.
This sale showcases that the market value for a sealed First Edition Base Set booster box, whilst gradually increasing, is nowhere near the price of Logan Paul’s box break price. Moving forward, the prices will continue to rise, as they have done throughout the last two decades. That being said, over the last few weeks the new price threshold set by Logan’s sale was being reported as a new norm – this sale brings things back to a slight normality.
