Pokemon GO Elite Trainer Box awarded ‘Game of the Year’

It’s been a fantastic year for the Pokemon TCG, with several sets, promos and events keeping fans busy. One of the products released this year was the Pokemon GO crossover set, which saw the mobile game and the TCG clash in one of the most unique campaigns we have seen for a while.

The success of this project has now been recognised at The Toy Foundation’s 2022 ‘Toy of the Year’ Awards by naming the Pokemon GO Elite Trainer Box this year’s ‘Game of the Year’. The TOTY Awards help fundraise for The Toy Foundation and recognize the top games and toys across 17 categories of play. The winners of each category is determined byToy Association members, retailers and website voters, to identify the best toys and games of the year. All the proceedings of The Toy Foundation go into programs that provide children who need the emotional, physical and educational benefits of toys the most. This includes children’s hospitals, toy bank programs and Children from impoverished backgrounds.

Pamela Mastrota, executive director of The Toy Foundation, said:

“The finalists are marvellous examples of innovation and imagination to deliver the power of play to children and adults alike. While the TOTY Awards spotlight the best of the best in toys, it’s heartening that our toy family chooses this platform to unite behind the TTF’s core program areas. Thanks to your collective support, we’re able to deliver millions of toys to disadvantaged youth, improve pediatric care in under-resourced communities, and help attract diverse talent to the industry.”

Barry Sams, the vice president of Pokemon TCG International, said:

“The Pokémon TCG has been an iconic part of the Pokémon brand for over 25 years, and it’s a joy to witness so many fans rekindle their love for the game through this special crossover with one of the most popular mobile games in the world, “We’re honoured that the Pokémon GO Elite Trainer Box has been recognized for bringing a unique spin on the classic Pokémon TCG, and we look forward to delivering even more new exciting products as we gear up for 2023.”

Pokemon Game of the Year

It’s always great to see the Pokemon TCG recognised for continuing to evolve, adapt and offer original products despite its lengthy 25-year history. The Pokemon GO crossover artwork, and the video game graphics incorporated into real-world locations, was certainly something unique for fans of both the mobile game and the TCG.
