Pokémon TCG Weekly Recap 3 – February ’21

Weekly Recap 3

Another week in Pokémon TCG. We’ve decided to condense the week’s happenings into one easy-to-read article with links if you’re interested to learn more. This is our Pokémon TCG Weekly Recap 3.

This week started with a bang, in light of the McDonald’s promotion fiasco, our illustration made its way across the internet. We wrote opposing opinion pieces – one focusing on the damaging effects of the current situation on future generations and another on why scalping and hoarding is the sign of a healthy hobby.

In other news, another record-breaking week for pokemon sales as a First Edition Base Set booster box sold for $450,000. There’s also a PWCC auction live for a PSA 7 Pikachu Illustrator that may break the majority of sales records out there.

Speaking of auctions, the auction site Goldin Auctions received a $40 million investment from a group of high-profile celebrities including Mark Cuban (Owner of NBA’s Dallas Mavericks and American TV personality), Kevin Durant, Mark Wahlberg, Logan Paul, and YouTube Co-founder Chad Hurley.

And finally, Shining Fates launched. This made me reflect on the sensations of pack opening and why we need to focus on the journey rather than the outcome of the chase.

Next week is going to be a huge one. We’ll be celebrating Pokémon’s 25th Anniversary throughout the week in the build-up to Pokémon day on 27 February.
