November has been a good month for PSA 10 ‘Son Goku, Hope of Universe 7’ sales, with three of them selling in the space of two weeks. The latest of these sold on a PWCC auction that ended on November 18th, which got a final bid of $1575. Although this is one of the lowest prices achieved for this card and grade during 2021, another did go for $1505 a week before on November 11th through an eBay auction.
Background of ‘Son Goku, Hope of Universe 7’ –
One of the reasons that the signature cards (SPR/SPR_S) are so popular is because of the printed signatures of the DBZ and DBS English voice actors, with the most popular being Sean Schemmel, the voice of Goku. Because the Tournament of power set is one of the most limited printed boosters in the entire Dragon Ball Super CG, the rarest cards, which includes ‘Son Goku, The Awakened Power’, have now become some of the most valuable cards in the entire game.
The Tournament of Power booster was the first themed deck to focus on a specific Dragon Ball Super story arch, while the previous three sets were general themes that included a combination of characters from the entire franchise. The 176-card set was released on May 25th, 2018, and had a very limited print run, as is the case with most DBS CG themed sets. There are currently eight Signature cards in the DBS CG – four coming with the Tournament of Power set and another four with the Assault of the Saiyans set. How has ‘Son Goku, Hope of Universe 7’ been performing throughout 2021?
In February 2021, the value of PSA 10 ‘Son Goku, Hope of Universe 7’ cards peaked at $4000 before staying steady at around $3500 up until May. The value then dropped down to around $2000 between July and August. There was another slight peak in September, with a sale of $2500, which was followed by another in October for $2150. Before this latest PWCC auction, the last PSA 10 copies of ‘Son Goku, Hope of Universe 7’ sold for $1990 on November 4th, $1505 on November 11th and $2025 on November 14th.
With such a value gap between February and now, it will be interesting to track its progress and see if it begins to climb back up in value in the new year. It’s not only this card that has seen value decreases in the last few months, with all of the high-value cards in the DBS CG seeing slight dips across the board when compared to first half of 2021. These include PSA 10 copies of ‘Son Goku, The Awakened Power’, ‘Son Goku & Vegeta, Apex of Power’ and the other Signature cards.
