Special Entry Deck to be released in a box promotion pack

Since the release of the Japanese Special Entry Deck, fans of the English Digimon Card Game have been wondering when, and if, we would get the missing Starter Deck. Now, we have the answer to that question, but it might not be the one people were hoping for. The cards of the Special Entry Deck won’t be coming in the same format as the Japanese version but will be released in two card packs given to those who buy an Xros Encounter booster box.

Only one Special Entry Pack will be given to those who buy an Xros Encounter booster box and will include a P-065 Gammamon and 1 of 16 alternative art cards that were included in the Special Entry Set.

While many collectors will enjoy getting hold of these alternate arts, the obvious problem with the cards of the Special Entry Set being distributed through two-card promotion packs is that it defeats the purpose of it being an introductory deck. Many people in the community have expressed their feelings that Bandai has missed a golden opportunity to print the same Special Entry Deck that was sold in Japan. This Starter Deck was intended as a way to get new players into the game and would offer ways to get cards that have now become harder to source.

Xros Encounter will be the 10th main booster set of the Digimon card game. Not only will several Digimon make their debut for the first time, but the brand new DigiXros (fusion) mechanic will shake things up as an alternative way to get your strongest Digimon in play.
