In a recent interview done with French media company Clique X, Robert Pattison, who is playing the Caped Crusader in The Batman movie, wasn’t shy to share his feelings toward Tifa and Aerith. In the interview, he tried to explain to his co-star Zoe Kravitz about the love triangle involving Cloud before struggling to decide which of the beautiful characters he found the most appealing. This, of course, is a choice many fans of the FFTCG will also struggle to answer, especially with all of the fantastic card art to choose from. In this article, we will share our favourite cards from each character.
In the interview with Clique X, Pattison explains how Aerith, or Aeris, depending on the translation, is a “really kind girl whose superpower is to heal everyone and make the world a better place”. Our favourite Aerith card is coming along with the Emissaries of Light booster, releasing on April 15th. This latest Aerith card is based on the Final Fantasy VII remake video game while still playing homage to the original key art from Final Fantasy VII. This card will be a Premium Foil Full Art ‘ Buy a Box’ promo for the upcoming set.
Another card worth mentioning is the Aerith reunion promo that was a casualty of the pandemic, as it was intended to encourage organised play in stores during the middle of COVID-19. The problem was, many stores were temporarily or permanently closed because of the pandemic, making the distribution of this card limited. The last foil copies of this card to sell throughout February went for £21, £33 and £36.
When it comes to Tifa, it seems that Pattison definitely has the hots for the longstanding fan favourite of the Final Fantasy series. While talking to his co-star, he said that Tifa is “ this sexy little thing, who’s a thief and stuff. She wears a short skirt.” Of course, Yuffie is the thief, but I think we can let Batman off for being a little confused. Tifa has been a popular character among fans since being introduced way back in Final Fantasy VII and has since had several FF TCG cards based on her. Although a lot of these cards look and play great, there is one Tifa card that stands out among the rest, especially when it comes to value.
The full art Tifa that came with Opus XI is currently the most valuable FFTCG card that can be pulled from a booster pack. The last copies to sell on TCG Player went for between $560 and $600 in January, while copies selling on eBay in February have been going for far less, with the last copies going for $402 and $448. When it comes to graded copies, a PSA 9 copy sold for $550 on February 14th, while two BGS 10s went for $1527 and $1613.
Another card worth mentioning is this card that was first seen in the Pre-Release kit for Opus XIV: Crystal Abyss, with that version having the gold stamped text on it. Fans of Final Fantasy VII may recognise this scene in the artwork, showing the kind and selfless Tifa staring up at the stars.
It’s no secret that Robert Pattison is a fan of the Final Fantasy franchise, even stating at GameSpot 2020 that Final Fantasy VII is his all-time favourite game. Could The Batman star also be a collector of the FFTCG? The Batman hits cinemas on March 4th worldwide.
